Week 11 Review

Ally: I did suggest in my preview piece that there were some tempting looking ties on offer over the course of Gamweek 11, and for once the prediction largely came to fruition. Of course if you do select the high scoring teams you still need to get the order of your selections right, and avoid any teams that fail to score in order to capitalise.

A quick look at the Gameweek leaderboard shows that plenty of people did just that, with 26 ‘tons’ recorded and a further 13 scores in the 90’s. The vast majority of these players had one or both of current Premier League champions Manchester City and Scottish Highland side Brora Rangers. City need no introduction as their exploits have been there for all to see for several seasons, and it came as no surprise that they effortlessly brushed aside struggling Burnley 5-0. Brora on the other hand are more of an unknown quantity, as the Scottish Highland League sides are rarely eligible for selection, but those who put their faith in them for the Scottish Cup tie against Coldstream were handsomely rewarded with a 6-0 win.

Not all the fancied teams performed in their respective competitions though, with the likes of Liverpool, Hartlepool United, Cove Rangers & Edinburgh City (just a solitary goal for each), plus Billericay, Salford & Elgin City (2 goals each) all somewhat flattering to deceive.

There were rich pickings elsewhere as plenty of other teams cashed in, with Gateshead, Ebbsfleet and Torquay, plus perennial Ultimate Goals favourites Rangers and Celtic all hitting 4 goals. At the other end of the scale, we did also see a few -20s (and worse), with Wolves, West Brom and Peterborough the chief culprits responsible for these, and many of the other scores under 50.

Gameweek 12 sees most teams return to domestic league action (with the exception of the Scottish League Cup semi finals) – good luck with your selections!!
