GW 15 – Review

Now that’s a bit more like it! The football gods treated us to a glut of goals at the weekend and whether you cashed in or your luck ran out, it was certainly an entertaining round. Here’s GW15’s stats analysis!

Let’s begin this week in customary fashion with a look at the top of the Global Weekly Table, where six of you just about scraped it to a century of points. In top spot, seated at the head of the VIP table in Club 100, was Julie Murray with a tidy 107 points. Messrs Manchester City (the most picked side with 110 selections) and Liverpool (29 picks) got Julie’s party started on x2 and x3, while the rest of her lineup consisted entirely of Scottish sides; most notably 4 goal Rangers (100 picks) on x8 and 5 goal Edinburgh City (42) on x5. There was some serious girl power going at the top of the leaderboard, as Vicky Ward and Julie Keller came home in second and third respectively. Well done to the top scorers!

Interestingly, City were the only team in any of the centurions’ selections that featured in this week’s Perfect 7 matrix, meaning that their totals only made up about 60% of the weekend’s incredible 178 maximum score. Halifax Town (0 picks), Crystal Palace (4) and Cheltenham Town (1) all joined Edinburgh City in netting five times, while Port Vale (0) hit Bolton Wanderers for six in a nine goal thriller to clinch the x8 spot.

As for the 4 goal sides to get the Perfect 7 going on x2 and x3, you could have gone for the likes of Bristol Rovers and Sutton Utd, as well as the usual suspects Liverpool and Rangers, to give you that points boost.

The deluge of goals this week gave all players a much better chance of bagging a decent points total and as such the average score rose to 45 points, the highest in 10 gameweeks, with 51% of you beating that. Nice work! Only 13 of you lost points in the ‘red zone’, but Graham Hawkes recorded a sickening -60, with relegation threatened Fulham (3 picks) his chosen x2 – now that’s risky business!!

Manchester City bookended the ‘Most Picked’ matrix (sounds a lot like last season doesn’t it?) on x2 and x8, with Rangers unusually only being popular enough for a x7 spot. Sunderland and Stenhousemuir took
up the x3 and x6 positions while Falkirk were the most selected x4 and x5 side. Fair to say The Black Cats from the North-East definitely brought the bad luck with them, a 1-0 home defeat against Wigan Athletic not the outcome the 30 of you who backed them were expecting!

Well that’s your fill from me this week. GW 16’s early kick-offs feature two mouth watering derbies, as Aston Villa visit Wolves in the West Midlands and Cardiff Host Swansea in South Wales. Select them if you dare! Good luck!
