GW 8 – Review

Welcome back to your weekly Ultimate Goals stats review! The weekend saw a bit of a return to form for most players in the table, with a much higher average score, a gaggle of punters dining in Club 100 and just two – yes, TWO – minus scores to report!

On the back of that mercifully low minus score tally, we’ll continue riding the good news train by congratulating the weekend’s top scorer, Simon Judson! Standing out as the crème de la crème at the tip of his multiplier matrix was 6-goal Grimsby Town, a popular choice at the weekend with 68 selections. The Mariners were backed in numbers for good reason as they faced off against Dover Athletic (0 picks), the bottom side in the National League. Simon was one of just four players to back fellow NL side Torquay Utd, who dismantled Wealdstone 5-0, backing the Gulls in his x5 spot. Several steady 2-goal sides padded out the rest of Simon’s score, which reached a very respectable 119.

Unfortunately, this score was still some way off the weekend’s Perfect 7 total of 169 points, despite Simon managing to get two of the three named sides in his matrix. Grimsby were indeed the top side with 6 goals and Torquay were joined by Scottish League One outfit Peterhead in scoring 5 goals. Placing these sides in the correct order, alongside any other 4-goal sides between x2-x5 would have seen you grab that £7,777 jackpot! Those 4-goal sides included Coventry City (just the 1 pick) who dismantled Fulham 4-1, while Portsmouth (also 1 selection) smashed Sunderland (14) 4-0 to upset plenty of you, with Wycombe Wanderers (9) coming from behind to beat Morecambe (0) in a 4-3 thriller. Woking (1) and Partick Thistle (0) also netted four times to make the weekend a high-scoring goal bonanza! These goals elevated plenty of scores into the ‘seriously good’ category and provided Club 100 with 11 diners.

Meanwhile, at the top of this season’s Global League Table, the battle for the top spot is reaching a fever pitch with John Richardson and Michael Richards separated by just 17 points and both earning a century of points at the weekend! This battle is developing nicely…….watch this space!

There were plenty of healthy scores up and down the league table this week, part owing to the fact that 39 players backed 3-goal Chelsea on x2 with another 13 on x3. The Blues were the most picked side at the weekend with 82 selections and repaid the faith shown in them at home to Southampton (0 backers). Grimsby were the most popular x4, x5 AND x6 choice, while Falkirk (47) and Rangers made up the pointy end of the most popular matrix at x 7and x 8 respectively.

As another international break looms, there are no Premier League or Championship matches in England and a handful of League One games have also been postponed due to international call-ups. Make your selections carefully and select the early kick-off at your own risk…….it’s high-flying Forest Green Rovers hosting Swindon Town in League Two. The good news is we have a complete fixture list in the National Leagues North and South to go at, which always leads to fun and games, with all of the weekend’s Scottish Cup matches also available for selection – worth noting that all four of Saturday’s games in this competition kick-off prior to the 14:55 deadline though, so more incentive to get your selections submitted well in advance. Good luck!
