GW 8 – Review

It was another tricky weekend of goal predicting, but I think the word that best describes gameweek 8’s results is indifferent. We had a decent average score, a reasonable number of Club 100 entries, but still more than a few dreaded minus scores. All in all, it was a weekend where those of you who managed to score right through to x8 will have been pretty happy!

As per tradition we will begin at the top of the weekend’s Global League Table. Chloe Roome took full advantage of the inclusion of FA Cup qualifying fixtures, as her lineup featured 2 goal Boreham Wood (33 selections) and Torquay Utd (27) on x4 and x8, along with very savvy selections of 6 goal Hartlepool Utd (43) and 5 goal Brackley Town on x6 and x7 respectively. Chloe’s cracking total of 115 saw her safely into Club 100, alongside six other players who recorded green scores. Down at the foot of the table however, we had a disappointing 16 minus scores recorded – that’s down from last week’s 37 at least!!

Now this week’s Perfect 7 was a whopper – reaching the dazzling heights of 174 points, the third highest of the season! Tonbridge Angels and Raith Rovers (3 picks) joined Brackley Town in netting five goals and landing a place on the P7 matrix, with Hartlepool’s super 6 goals putting them in x8 spot. If you had these in the right positions then all you needed was 4 goal sides in your first three multipliers to reach that juicy jackpot prize! You could have gone for Motherwell, Blackburn Rovers, Solihull Moors, Dunfermline and even Skelmersdale Utd (no, I hadn’t heard of them either!) Despite any of these teams being selected much, our average score reached a strong 41 points, so well done to the 49% of you who beat it!

The Most Popular matrix returned to its usual predictability, with Rangers the most selected side this weekend – The Gers occupying x6, x7 and x8. Liverpool took up the x2 and x3 spots, while Norwich City were highly selected on x4 and x5, not a surprise given their opponents were serial-conceders, Wycombe Wanders. It’s been a tough start to life in the Championship for The Chairboys.

Remember, to take advantage of those early Saturday fixtures you need to get those selections sorted in good time! This week Manchester City travel across the Pennines to Sheffield Utd, Bristol City host Norwich City in a Championship clash between two of the current top six, and in League One Sunderland make the long journey south to Gillingham. Good luck!
