GW 39 – Review
Another thrilling football season is coming towards its close, which means the results are more and more crucial to all TUG players. GW 39 produced another stunning gameweek – we had two great top scores and Club 100 was pleasantly busy yet again. Here’s how things went down…..
News from the top of the Global Weekly Table first, and a second top-spot tie of the season. Jamie Marson made his second appearance at the sharp end of strong looking league table, with Victoria Jones sitting alongside Jamie on the podium for the first time this season. Both players’ stand out picks were 7 goal Hartlepool Utd (23 selections) and 4 goal Hibernian (60) in strong multiplier positions, while wisely chosen 2 and 3 goal sides made up the difference. With 117 points apiece, Jamie and Victoria share the plaudits in a Club 100 that was bouncing, with 17 other players in ‘the green’ packing the place out.
As for the ever-so-difficult Perfect 7, the score here amassed an incredible 177 points. Scoring 7 goals at the weekend meant Hartlepool Utd naturally occupied the x8 spot, with Stirling Albion (just 4 selections) and Albion Rovers (0!) on x6 and x7 each netting a fabulous 5 in a Scottish League Two weekend packed with goals! The rest of the P7 lineup featured any 4 goal side and there were some great options to choose from: AFC Wimbledon (3), Morecambe (5), Halifax Town (28), Wrexham (3), Sutton Utd (4) and Arbroath (0) each bagged four times on Saturday alone, while Hibernian (60 picks) were the only side to fire four into the net on Sunday. Despite a fairly low backing of these 4 goal sides, the average score still reached an impressive 40 points which 43% of you managed to beat.
In terms of usual selection numbers, many of the heavy-hitters were in action in cup competitions, which always seem to throw up surprises. Celtic and Rangers came up against one another in the Scottish Cup and subsequently were only picked a combined 13 times, while serial x2 banker side Manchester City were backed by just 18 players. Manchester Utd were your favourite side to do the business at the weekend, amassing the most picks (72), and the Red Devils were the most popular banker side on x2, as well as a bridge to the more lucrative multipliers on x5. Hull City (42 total picks) and Stockport County (51 total) were the most backed x3 and x4 picks, while Scottish sides made up x6, x7 and x8 in the shape of Kilmarnock (54), Hibernian, and St Johnstone (63).
Despite the decent amount of good totals, there were also a disappointing 23 minus scores recorded at the weekend. Man City’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup Semi-Final dealing a fatal blow to most of the players found at the wrong end of the table.
That’s the review for another week. With it getting down to crunch time in the season, the next few rounds could be make or break for many of you in your mini leagues, so ensure you make the wisest selections possible and in good time too! Newcastle Utd travel to Liverpool, Bournemouth host Brentford and Portsmouth take on Bristol Rovers across three leagues in the early Saturday kick-offs. Good Luck and in the meantime let’s see where the fallout from the proposed new European Super League takes us!!
