GW 32 – Review

Welcome back to the ‘Post-Week Review’, thanks for checking in! We had a decent smattering of strong scores this week, despite a lull in goalmouth action, but overall it was another gameweek that flattered to deceive somewhat. Let’s get straight into the analysis, shall we?

We’ll begin at the top of the Weekly Global League table where, for the first time in nine gameweeks, one player raked in enough points to break into a cobweb-filled Club 100. And that player was…. me! I’ll try to stay (semi!) modest in my analysis to avoid inflating my ego before the inevitable -20 comes through next gameweek! The most notable sides in my lineup were Cambridge Utd (only 4 picks) and Leicester City (67), who scored four and five goals respectively on my x5 and x7. Three goals each from Manchester City and Burton Albion (5 picks), with two more from Bromley (65) and Norwich City bulked up my score a bit. Lincoln City (75 picks) made it all possible though, with a solitary goal on x3 to keep my score climbing. Big up The Imps, despite a surprise 2-1 home defeat to struggling Rochdale the goal they scored was what really mattered! Scoring a total of 104, my toe was only just over the line for a triple-digit score, but they all count!

Leicester City and Cambridge Utd were the only named sides in the weekend’s Perfect 7 matrix,  which maxed out at a fairly lowly 128 points, meaning any 3 goal side from x2 through to x6, with The Foxes and The U’s at the business end, would have guided you to a perfect score and that illusive £7,777 cash injection!

There may not have been many high scoring games at the weekend, but there were certainly some improving scores! No less than 17 players surpassed the 80 point line and an impressive 52% of players beat the weekend’s challenging average score of 36 points. As with last weekend, a lot of popular sides found the back of the net (with far more expected final scorelines!), the most notable being 3 goal Man City with 99 picks (the highest picked side) and 2 goal Norwich City with 57 picks. Bromley bagged a couple against Barnet, while Sutton Utd (33) continue to set the pace at the top of the National League with a 1-0 win away at King’s Lynn Town, their seventh win in eight matches. Meanwhile in the Scottish Championship, Hearts (66) and Queen of the South (40) each found the net twice, pleasing many of you in the process.

Hearts were particularly popular this week, being the most chosen x3 and x7 side, while Lincoln City and Bromley were the most picked x5 and x6 teams. Leicester City’s decisive demolition of a Sheffield Utd side destined for the drop was underestimated, with the Midlands club most popular down at x4 while, predictably, Man City bookended the matrix at x2 and x8. But the weekend did not go swimmingly for all players – 12 of you found yourselves ‘in the red’ at the end of play, with Warren Elkes and Graham Hawkes recording minus 60s to prop up the table! Better luck next time!

That’s a wrap for gameweek 32’s analysis. The next slice of TUG action will come in midweek, with a bonus round featuring the return of Champions League fixtures! These rounds always have a special feel to them, so make sure you get your selections in early to take full advantage of the sides in action! There are lots of early kick-offs in the leagues that are in play, so do your research well before the deadline passes. Good luck!
