GW 16 – Review
Seems we had another glorious goal fest at the weekend that some of you really took advantage of. Let’s check the major talking points from GW16……
We’ll start at the summit of the Global Weekly Table and Jamie Marson’s impressive table topping score of 122. Hearts (76 selections) were Jamie’s highest earning side, with 6 goals on x7 generating a third of his score, with well chosen 4 goal sides on x3, x5 and x6 pushing him towards the 100 point mark. Putting Celtic (67 picks) on x2 has become a risky tactic in recent weeks, but their brace got Jamie’s ladder climbing, while The Bhoys’ Glasgow neighbours Rangers (the most popular team of the weekend with 101 picks) also found the net twice on x8. Elgin City’s (48) single goal on x4 was the joint lowest points earner in his matrix, but that all important goal got him into his big points earners.
This week’s Perfect 7 was the highest it’s been for six gameweeks; a daunting 185 points. Chesterfield (just two selections) joined Hearts in bagging six to occupy the x7 and x8 spots, while Exeter City (5 picks), Bournemouth (30) and Charlton Athletic (2) found the net five times apiece for a place on the P7 multiplier ladder. Throw in any 4 goal side on x2 and x3 and you’d have won the jackpot prize! You could have built your score with Hibernian (14 picks), Sunderland (1), Peterborough Utd (23), Wigan Athletic (2), Carlisle Utd (18) or Crawley Town (0), all of which were your 4 goal options.
However, many of you chose to start your multiplier ladder with Liverpool (91 picks), whose 1-1 draw with Fulham was a good way to get your scores rolling – even if The Reds did make you wait much longer than expected! They were also the most popular x3 choice, Hearts were the most picked x4 and x6 side, while Elgin City were the most popular x5 choice. And surprise, surprise, Rangers were not only the most selected team overall again, but were also the most picked x7 and x8 team, clearly many players looking to them as their main points generating option.
With Liverpool and Rangers failing to fire like the Gatling guns we know they can be, and 58 times chosen Hull City failing to bag at all, it’s no wonder Club 100 was struggling for business. Indeed only five players reached a triple figure score. The average score dipped again, just 27 points in GW 16, and there were a troubling 22 minus scores at the foot of the weekly table.
That’s it from me, don’t forget to get those selections in early should you wish to take a punt on the early kick-offs in GW 17. Liverpool travel to Crystal Palace, Norwich City host Cardiff City and Rochdale face Gillingham across the leagues. We also have the FA Trophy available for the first time this season and up in Scotland we have last season’s delayed Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Hearts up for selection. Good luck!
