GW 9 – Review
Good afternoon everybody,
We hosted our second ‘International Week’ of the season in GW 9 and these rounds have a rather chequered history shall we say! The introduction of the National North & South Leagues almost always results in drama and this one was no different! Let’s have a quick breakdown of the major talking points from the weekend…..
It was a terrific weekend for 23 of you who dined out at Club 100, with Paul Roome taking centre stage thanks to a stunning 129 point return. Paul’s teams racked up a total of 23 goals between them, with Harrogate Town being the standout selection on x5 – The Sulphurites hammered poor old Scunthorpe Utd 6-1! Highscoring picks Raith Rovers (3 goals), Inverness CT, Cove Rangers and Oxford City (all 4 goals) added plenty to the tally, whilst Paul can also point to having 1-goal sides Dartford and Chippenham Town on x2 and x3 – perfect placement in his matrix! David Lee also made it into the 120s, scoring 124, but well done to all of you who reached three figures.
No one got particularly close to the highest possible score though, which amounted to a massive 163 points in GW 9, as the Perfect 7 remains elusive. Just the two ‘named’ sides; Havant & Waterlooville banged 5 goals past Concord Rangers and the aforementioed Harrogate Town topped the charts with their 6-goal haul. Plenty of 4-goal teams that you could have chosen; aside from those already listed above, you might have backed Sutton Utd, Chesterfield, Dorking Wanderers or Hampton & Richmond, so there was no shortage of goalscoring options!
On the downside, 21 players found reverse and there was definitely some blame attached to those rogues from the NL North & South! Curzon Ashton (North) and Maidstone Utd (South) were arguably the biggest culprits, whilst League Two high-flyers Forest Green came a cropper in Saturday’s 12:30 game – the curse of the early kick-off strikes again!! Uncanny how often this occurs. Worst affected was Rahin Bakar, who suffered a bone-shuddering -80, but there wewre also -60s and -40s in play on top of the -20s we see on such a regular basis.
GW 10 is next up and this one has the clear potential to bring out the very best in you, as we have the FA Qualification ties available, alongside a full fixture list in England and Scotland. If ever there was a gameweek to aim for not only a ton, but a big ton, this is surely it! As usual, we have games kicking off at 12;30, so don’t leave it too late before submitting if you want to take full advantage of the offerings. Good luck to you all.
