GW 6 – Review

The tide has definitely turned! In last week’s review I suggested that we might be seeing an overall dip in form since the opening few weeks of the season and GW 6 heaped on the misery for plenty of players…..including us here at TUG headquarters! If ever you wanted proof that anyone can have a shocker, no matter how long you’ve played or how invested you are this game, then look no further than this round – three organisers submitted teams and the combined total was an appalling -28 return, including two minus scores (one of them a -40 for good measure!) A bad, very bad, day at the office indeed!!

In total, 12 players suffered a points reversal and you won’t be too surprised to learn that it was Arsenal who did most of the damage. The Gunners were heavily backed across the board, but a shock 2-0 defeat on the coast at Bournemouth left a lot of people feeling seasick! Rangers were another high profile casualty, losing 1-0 at Kilmarnock in a pretty woeful display, further proving that these supposed ‘big hitters’ give absolutely no guarantees where this game is concerned!

It wasn’t all doom and gloom though, as a fantastic effort from Victoria Jones saw her romp to a lovely 103 point tally. Victoria’s secret appeared to fly in the face of TUG tradition, with history repeating itself time and again where early kicks offs are involved, as she went ‘all in’ on three Saturday 12:30 matches on x2, x3 & x4…..and was duly rewarded with a hatful of goals from Reading, Spurs and Wycombe. A brave tactic, but one that firmly paid off, as Bolton, York, Huddersfield & Celtic went on to round off a very satisfying afternoon’s work.

Gameweek 7 is now on the horizon, with a key addition from its predecessor – we have the Scottish Cup Second Round in play and a host of enticing fixtures in that competition to go at. I know lots of you enjoy a trip into the unknown, so fill your boots if you so wish! Good luck to everyone, the organisers will certainly be looking for a big improvement I can assure you of that!!
