GW 5 – Review
Gameweek 5 delivered a weekend that absolutely exploded into life late on in Saturday afternoon’s fixtures, as a flurry of goals (especially in the FA Cup qualifying matches) resulted in many players’ scores shooting towards three figures and, in a handful of cases, above one hundred!
David Munro was chief among those to profit, as what would have been an average total suddenly rocketed upwards, thanks in no small part to his selections from the aforementioned FA Cup games on offer; in particular Dagenham & Redbridge and Boreham Wood, who really allowed him to cash in with no less than 9 goals between them, netting David 53 points from that pair alone. His score of 109 topped the weekly charts, one of four to break the magical 100 mark.
With visits to Club 100 being beaten by minus scores for the second week running, there’s evidence to suggest the tables have turned slightly since GW 2 and 3’s ‘ton fest’. On this occasion, the chief culprits were clearly League Two side Barrow AFC, who surprisingly succumbed 0-1 at home to bottom of the division Morecambe, giving the visitors their first league win of the season. Conversely, the popular picks across the FA Cup qualifiers did not fail to live up to expectations, although it’s worth noting that in another cup competition that was available – the Scottish Challenge Cup – Airdrie (the most popular pick from Scotland in GW 5) very nearly caused carnage in the leaderboard, before finally finding the net in the 87th minute against East Kilbride. This game hinges on such fine margins!
Gameweek 6 is now open and awaiting your submissions, with a full list of fixtures in our nine usual leagues across England and Scotland. Let’s see what the post-international round has in store for us! Good luck to you all.
