GW 44 – Review
Unbelievable Jeff! Now that’s the way to end a season! A scintillating final gameweek of TUG action rounded off a turbulent but nevertheless thrilling season, and confirmed the season’s Global League Champion! Here’s your final weekly round-up of the 2020/21 TUG season…
First things first we should crown our Champion and it’s…..drumroll please….. Karl Norman! For a second season running, Karl lifts The Ultimate Goals Global League title with a formidable 2839 points. Achieved in 44 gameweeks, that’s a prolific average of 65 points per round! A great effort! Karl saw off the challenge of Steve Roome and Oliver Norman, who finish a highly respectable second and third respectively. A hearty well done to the top three players.
Onto the final Weekly Leaderboard of the season and Mike Kokins’ table-topping score of 120 points. 5 goal Wrexham (56 selections), Bayern Munich (71) and Manchester City (16) were the only named sides in the final Perfect 7 matrix and Mike had all three – on x4, x6 and x8 respectively – to end his season on a real high. Mike wasn’t dancing alone in Club 100 though, as 29 other players packed the place out for a real end of season shindig.
Speaking of highs, the average score of the week reached a dizzying 77 points, stealing in at the last minute to record the highest points average of the season! A lot of the much fancied sides provided the goods at the weekend, with the most picked side, Liverpool (72 selections), bagging two to secure Champions League football and Bayern Munich, chosen by 71 players, hitting five – with Robert Lewandowski breaking the Bundesliga’s goalscoring record in the final minute. What drama! 3 goal Notts County were also well backed (51 picks), while 2 goal Torquay Utd and Atletico Madrid were chosen by 66 and 50 players respectively – the latter clinching the La Liga title with a comeback win at Valladolid!
However, the season’s record high average score also owes a little something to the record LOW amount of just two minuses! Roy Blair and Stephen Cruise will be devastated that they didn’t get in on the points scoring as they prop up the final weekly league table of the season.
Many players selected Liverpool in their lineups and 19 of you backed them to get your multipliers going on x2, making them the favourite in that position. Atletico Madrid and Notts County were the most picked climber sides on x3 and x4, while Stockport County were seen as more of a points earner as the favourites on x5 and x7 – doing little to justify that tag with a below par 1 goal return against lowly Woking. Meanwhile, German juggernauts Bayern Munich were the highest selected x6 and x8 side and, unlike Stockport, did not fail to deliver as they thrashed Augsburg.
So that’s that for another sensational season of The Ultimate Goals. Thank you all for playing and hopefully you’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. We’re already planning ahead for next season and hopefully you’ll all be back to join us too! Will you be able to knock Karl Norman off his pedestal? Can you retain your mini-league titles and bragging rights? Do you need to make amends after a poor showing this year? There’s only one way to find out…..
