GW 17 – Review

What an exciting weekend of football we’ve just witnessed! The goals were flying in across all our divisions in gameweek 17, but a few surprising results caused a few of you some trouble in profiting from the abundance of goalmouth action. Let’s get into this week’s goals!

We’ll kick off with this week’s top scorer in the Global League; congratulations Richard French! Richard’s first three multipliers feature an amazing 9 goals, coming from 3 goal Rangers (74 picks) 4 goal Airdreonians (18) and 2 goal Fleetwood (14), at x2, x3 and x4. However, the bulk of our top scorer’s points total came from the sumptuous combination of Oxford Utd (27), Edinburgh City and Celtic (100), each scoring 4 at x6, x7 and x8 to return 84 points! This sat on the right side of Raith Rovers (11) at x5 who scored a solitary goal at home to Peterhead to progress to the 4th round of the Scottish Cup. All this meant Richard’s score was an impressive 115! Well done!

Richard’s score was the highlight of what was a pretty strong week here on TUG. Seven of you waltzed into Club 100 on the back of smart selections, while the average score this week was a very impressive 52! Well done to the 58% of you who beat the average this week. There were plenty of high scores to fill your boots this week, with the ‘Perfect 7’ score up at 171 points. Crewe Alexandra thumped 10 man Morecambe 5-0, while Accrington Stanley put 7 past an improving Bolton side (though the Trotters were reduced to 10 men inside 15 minutes while leading 1-0) for your best x7 and x8 selections, while any 4 goal team would have done the business at x2 through to x6. Don’t forget there is a very tasty £1,300 up for grabs for anyone that can pick the Perfect 7.

Other high scores this weekend included Celtic’s 4-0 drumming of Livingston, Bristol Rovers’ (1 pick) dramatic 4-3 win over Shrewsbury, Oxford Utd’s (27 picks) dominant 4-0 win at troubled Southend and Forest Green Rovers’ 4-2 win at Leyton Orient (2 picks). However, our more popular choices this week featured in-form National League leaders Barrow with 24 selections, East Fife on 48 and Partick Thistle on 50. Notably, Queen of the South didn’t find the net until the 92nd minute, rescuing 50 players’ scores. A further 45 of you backed a laboured Arsenal to score against Southampton while 56 of you were confident in a Liverpool victory at Crystal Palace, which wasn’t without more VAR controversy. However, the return of Jose Mourinho (now dubbed the humble one) only drew 12 of you to Tottenham’s early kick off at West Ham.

The bad news this week isn’t really too bad at all. Just 9 minus 20s and a single minus 60 mean meant that just 10 of you were in the red this week.

That’s it for this week’s summary of Ultimate Goals statistics and figures. Please note, Tuesday and Wednesday TUG sees a midweek bonus round to help you boost your score! This features games from the Champions League, National North and South as well as the EFL Trophy. For a full list of leagues included for the midweek fixture visit the homepage of the Ultimate Goals Website. The deadline to make your selections is 19:40 Tuesday.

Good luck and happy scoring.
