GW 15 – Review

That’s more like it! GW 15 was like a breath of fresh air after a trio of tricky gameweeks that underwhelmed, to say the least! The weekend’s action featured plenty of goals but not an abundance of seriously high-scoring sides. That did not stop players from smashing that 100-point barrier though! Here’s how the weekend’s action played out…..

We’ll start with the highest scorer of those 10 lucky/wise/skillful players who made it to three figures, Charlie Chamberlain! The seven sides in his matrix all scored 3 goals or more, with Boreham Wood (16 picks) and Fulham (the most selected side on 88) the standouts as they each bagged four on x3 and x7 respectively, giving Charlie a total of 23 goals across his selections. That’s some impressively consistent team selecting! His final score of 115 not only saw him comfortably top of the table as play ended, but had him edging towards the closest to a perfect seven than we’ve seen in a long time!

At 138, the Perfect 7 was at its lowest for nine gameweeks. Low P7 scores usually correlate to even lower player scores, but that certainly wasn’t the case this week! Not only did 10 players reach a ton of points, the average score also hit a very decent 52. Watford (just a single selection) stunned Manchester Utd (23) 4-1, to join Boreham Wood and Fulham on 4 goals, with Liverpool (23), Altrincham (0) and Leyton Orient (1) being the other sides to replicate that against their respective opponents. That left any 3 goal side on x2 to fill the only remaining slot in a solid, if unspectacular, P7 matrix that topped out at 138 points!

The Premier League certainly offered up plenty of goals at the weekend as Burnley (0 picks!) and Crystal Palace (none again!), along with Newcastle Utd (2) and Brentford (0), battled out thrilling 3-3 draws, while Chelsea (8) also scored three times as they ran out 3-0 winners away at Leicester City (0). Manchester City’s routine 3-0 victory over Everton (0) was backed by 59 of you, while in League One, 54 players chose Rotherham Utd to produce the goals. They did just that, seeing off Cambridge Utd (1 pick) 3-1, while Celtic (61 picks) and Rangers (42) could only produce a goal apiece in their Scottish League Cup Semi-Finals – the former leaving it until the 77th minute before finally netting, much to the relief of those of you who selected The Bhoys on x2!

Choosing a free-scoring Fulham seemed to be the popular power-play as they were not only the most selected side of the GW, but also the most selected team on x3, x5, x6 AND x7. Rotherham Utd were the most popular x4 choice, while Manchester City bookended the ‘Most Selected’ matrix as the x2 and x8 pick.

That’s the review for another week. DON’T FORGET that there’s a bonus round in midweek, with some European action thrown in for good measure! These quickfire rounds offer a chance to bounce back from a disappointing score, or build on a previously impressive total. Good Luck!
